Man charged with tampering crime scene where four bodies were found
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A man has been charged with tampering the scene where police found four dead bodies in Carondelet in May.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police, a call to respond to the 800 block of Schirmer came out at around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 18. At the scene, police found four people fatally shot at an abandoned apartment complex.
The deceased were later identified as Wendell Simmons, 67, Justin Wells, 33 and Ashley Cardwell, 34. The fourth victim has not been identified.
On Friday, June 13, 43-year-old Wendell Miller was charged with three counts of tampering. Police say Miller ‘staged the crime scene’ by placing three firearms in the hands of three of the dead individuals.
According to a probable cause statement, Miller then removed a surveillance camera and disposed of shell casings in a dumpster. Miller has multiple felony convictions and itted to handling the firearms.
A homicide investigation remains active.
