ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - First Alert 4 spoke with Missouri Senator Josh Hawley after a program that would compensate radiation victims in areas like St. Louis was added to President Donald Trump’s Budget Bill.

This follows a years-long fight to help people along Coldwater Creek and other St. Louis neighborhoods impacted by nuclear waste leftover from the Manhattan Project.

RECA expired last year, but the Senate added an amendment to the budget to reauthorize the program and expand it to compensate Missouri residents whose health has been compromised.

First Alert 4 spoke with Senator Josh Hawley, who says the Senate “continues to believe this program is not a massive spend and it’s offset with the other corresponding spending cuts.”
