NWS confirms EF1 tornado touched down south of De Soto
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Two days after a tornado struck south of De Soto, Steve and Linda Kamp were still finding personal belongings that were blown into a wooded area near their home on Big River Heights Road.
The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down south of De Soto Saturday, causing damage to 53 buildings.
The most severe damage was to the Kamp’s home, where the roof was damaged and a long front porch was blown down, obscuring the front of the house.
Significant damage was also found at the home of Matt Keller, on Wilson Hollow Road. The tornado’s winds of up to 105 miles an hour, damaged his roof and snapped large tree limbs off and tossed them beside his home.
Warren Robinson is the Jefferson County Emergency Management director.
“Damages ranging from mildly being effected all the way to portions of the roof being removed and damage to the board structures and things like that,” he said.
According to Robinson, this was the 3rd tornado to hit Jefferson County this year.
Damage was also significant at Camp Neotez, a Christian summer camp also on Big River Heights Road. According to camp caretaker, Nate Reiser, several cabins were damaged including 2 cabins that are beyond repair.
No injuries were reported from Saturday’s tornado. According to the NWS, the tornado had a 4.9 mile long path and a max width of 300 yards.
