Sunday is a First Alert Weather Day: An inbound cold front is the focus for today’s severe weather risk. We’re under either a Level 2/5 or 1/5 threat. Strong to severe storms are more likely in the 2/5 zone, but as we saw yesterday near De Soto with the likely tornado, even a lower-end threat can still produce dangerous weather.

I want you to start monitoring the radar by 4 p.m., even though storms may not arrive until later. It looks like nearly everyone will experience thunderstorms, though the strong to severe storms appear to be more scattered.

The window for severe weather is between 4 and 9 p.m., but lingering showers or storms may persist for several hours afterward. Hail (up to quarter size) and wind (up to 60 mph) are the primary risks today. There is also a lower tornado threat, especially in the 2/5 zone. However, I want everyone to stay alert in case a brief tornado develops elsewhere.

Don’t unplug today! Stay aware of the risks and be ready to act if a warning is issued for your area.

Monday Through Wednesday: Finally, a break in the active weather pattern! We’re looking forward to lower humidity and more sunshine as upper-level high pressure keeps the pattern calmer for a few days. Unfortunately, this break won’t last long. We’re seeing chances for showers and storms beginning on Thursday and continuing into next weekend.
