KEOKUK, Iowa (WGEM/Gray News) - Police responded to a burglary-in-progress call that turned out to be a deer.

Police in Keokuk, Iowa, said a deer broke through the front window of Tangles Hair Salon and Boutique.

Police body camera footage shows the deer trying to escape through a window in the back of the store while an officer attempts to calm the deer down.

“Just stop, bro. I know you’re freaking out. Chill for a second,” the officer said.

Police said they eventually used a catch pole to remove the deer from the business.

Tangles Hair Salon and Boutique owner Tarla Price said when she arrived at the shop, there was blood scattered all across the salon and multiple objects were knocked over.

Once police were able to get the deer out of the building, local volunteers and a local glass company helped clean up.

“It’s always amazing to me when something like this happens because random people you don’t even think about care. Java River brought us coffee and sandwiches, and then my friends came, a couple of my coworkers, and her mom came and helped clean everything up. It’s really amazing to me how well our community comes together and says, “Hey, she needs help,” and they send people right away," Price said.

She said she is thankful the damages were minimal because it could have been significantly worse.
