ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Blues Hockey paused on Sunday to honor a St. Louis Metropolitan Police officer who was severely injured when struck by a vehicle last week.

SLMPD Officer Nathan Spiess was in the process of arresting a juvenile carjacking suspect when he was struck by a vehicle on March 17 on the shoulder of Interstate 70. The driver of the car fled the scene and is facing felony charges.

Spiess had to have two surgeries and part of his leg amputated. Backstopers and other community groups are helping him on the long road to recovery.
